Ameeta Gangaram
Low everybody. And welcome to episode the 34 of the Simple Marketing Solutions podcast where today we are going to dig into the power of knowing your ideal client. Now I know that if you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, in episode 26, we did cover why you’re looking at clients the wrong way.
Ameeta Gangaram
And I started to give you some key information around three areas that you needed to address when clarifying your audience and your master. But today I wanted to take it a bit deeper.
Ameeta Gangaram
Why you might be thinking wasn’t that enough? Well, no, it isn’t. In my Facebook group we are some called simple marketing solutions. Actually, I have been getting heaps of people asking questions with wanting to know more about ideal clients and trying to understand how do they get to knowing who their ideal client is and what are the exact steps they need to do to get there.
Ameeta Gangaram
And so I know that often as marketers, we use this term ideal client or avatar so frequently. And you might be thinking, as a small business owner or a business owner, that what does it actually mean when somebody says ideal client or avatar?
Ameeta Gangaram
And so I thought I’d just recap on a bit of an explanation of this to hopefully help you to understand it. Because in the world of business and marketing, it is important that you understand the foundational steps in order for you to be able to really take that information, run with it and use it to your best ability within your business to grow it successfully.
Ameeta Gangaram
So an ideal client or avatar is, as we talk about it, is that person that you love working with. When you close your eyes and you picture that person, there’s a name for this one kind that you know has done.
Ameeta Gangaram
Everything that you’ve said has taken action, has been active in the process of their journey. Whether it be that you’ve got a service based business or product based business. But this person is active.
Ameeta Gangaram
They do what you tell them to do. They buy what they need to buy for themselves because they see the value and they get results. Sharing that with their friends, their family and spreading the word.
Ameeta Gangaram
This is what an ideal client is. It’s the client that you just love working with. You want more of those. They’re loyal. They spread the word and they’re getting results, which is the most important thing.
Ameeta Gangaram
They are not those clients that are looking for a quick fix or a magic solution when they’re not willing to do any of the work. They are definitely not that client who is looking to blame others and not take responsibility or working through what they need to in order to get to the other side and get results.
Ameeta Gangaram
And your ideal client is definitely not that person who expects you to do everything or that product to fix everything while everything else stays the same. They’re definitely also not that client who doesn’t value your expertise and the knowledge that you share and impart with them.
Ameeta Gangaram
So now that you know the difference between an ideal client and what an what it looks like. 4. Not an ideal client as well, because it’s important to understand both sides of the coin.
Ameeta Gangaram
Hopefully now we can deal a bit deeper and peel back that onion layer just a little bit. You know that I like to take it slowly and simply because I don’t want anything to feel overwhelming.
Ameeta Gangaram
I want you to be able to take something from today and be able to implement it. So what I wanted to really cover today was more about. But how do you find out more about who that ideal client is?
Ameeta Gangaram
And this is the question that I kept getting in the group. How do I find this client? How do I know who they are? So now that you know the definition of who an ideal client is and what that looks like, the thing, the three things that will help you to dig deeper into this is number one research.
Ameeta Gangaram
Yep, you heard me right? Research, And you know, I had to date. Somebody say to me that they’re scared of getting out there and talking to their clients and finding ideal clients are talking about it and having to do research around that is something that’s scary to them.
Ameeta Gangaram
And the way that I like to frame this is that you’re just having an open, frank conversation with somebody who can help you to understand what their needs are, what their problems are, how they’ve gone about looking for answers and solutions.
Ameeta Gangaram
What works for them? What doesn’t work for them? What their style of learning is? Are they visual? Are the auditory? What is it that works for them? Where do they go for information?
Ameeta Gangaram
Do they listen to podcasts? Do they scroll through social media? Do they follow people in specific face communities, or are they more, into reading blogs or YouTube videos? That’s the type of question that you can ask when you’re doing that market research and having that conversation with somebody that you feel it’s in as your ideal client.
Ameeta Gangaram
So it is really important that you are comfortable with this and it means that by doing this research you understand that client and therefore you can start tailoring your services towards that.
Ameeta Gangaram
Number. Two is identifying their needs and how do you identify their needs if you’re not willing to have a conversation with them, right? So coming back to the research, this is where you have the opportunity to ask them what their problems are?
Ameeta Gangaram
What are their desires? What are outcomes? Are they looking for? It will really help you to create an offer that specifically meets this, and lastly is to clarify your message. When you’ve taken on board the research, you’ve understood what their needs are.
Ameeta Gangaram
You understand how they think and where they go to. For information, You can use that language that you captured in your messaging so that it really speaks to them. It’s authentic and it resonates and that becomes a paying client in the end.
Ameeta Gangaram
So the next part of this is I’m wanting to go into helping you to understand your ideal client better so that you can start to tailor your offer accordingly. Because yes, now that you’ve done the research, you understand the client well, what’s the next step in getting people to pay you money?
Ameeta Gangaram
And this is starting to tailor your offer. So for example, one of my clients, who is a nutritionist, realized that her clients, even though they live in a close proximity to where her clinic is, they are actually more comfortable with having online appointments.
Ameeta Gangaram
And she only started to realize that when she did her market research. So it’s given her the great opportunity to streamline her business, save money on paying rent for business premises, and now be able to work directly from home.
Ameeta Gangaram
And I know that, you know, through COVID, a lot of businesses were able to put it in this way. But there has been more, you know, going back to having an office and style doing online appointments.
Ameeta Gangaram
It could mean that you could have everything 100 percent online. It also has helped her to have people cancel less frequently, show up on time on their appointments, and they feel like they’re getting more support from her through this.
Ameeta Gangaram
Another thing to think about is when you get your ideal client, you can position your offer to meet their specific needs. And I mentioned that a few seconds ago, but you know it really can come down to being very specific.
Ameeta Gangaram
For example, you could offer a daily accountability check in via email where when you’re running your detox program, or you can have a series of follow ups that prompt people to support them in the product that they bought from your store, helping them to understand the benefits of the product, how they could use it, other alternatives of it.
Ameeta Gangaram
There is endless of the opportunities that could open up when you position your product or service accordingly. And like I mentioned in episode 26, it’s also your way of standing out from the crowd.
Ameeta Gangaram
Now we know that, you know, all of our industries. There’s hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people doing the same thing. You know, they may be nutritionists, naturopaths, mat therapist coaches.
Ameeta Gangaram
They might have the same type of products that you offer, but it’s how you position yourself that’s going to make. It is really simple and clear for somebody to resonate with you and your uniqueness and see your authenticity.
Ameeta Gangaram
So that’s really important when it comes down to your messaging. So are you ready to clarify who you work with or do you still have questions around this? Pop me an email, let me know or jump into my social.
Ameeta Gangaram
Send me a DM if you’ve got any questions. But if you do need some extra help on just getting all of this done into paper, I know that’s me. I love to just work through something that I can read in my own time.
