Welcome back to the podcast. Last episode we were discussing the importance of shifting your mindset from being the practitioner to the CEO of your business. Today I wanted to take that another step further and start looking at…
Getting back to the foundations of your marketing and building that roadmap, we started talking about that a little bit last week, but today we’re going into a lot more detail. When it comes to marketing, there’s a four-step client attraction framework that I use with great success within my own practice, as well as teaching it to all my clients.
These four steps are the perfect way to start growing your business and attracting clients that you love working with. Remember that feeling of working with clients that get great results, that take on board what you’re talking about and suggesting and wanting them to implement, and that refer their friends and family to you.
Yes, my friend, those are the ideal clients and you may not have had as many of them as you would normally recently, but I’m here to tell you that it is possible you can get those clients in your door.
And it really starts with the step, which is step one, as always, defining your core. What is it that your business is all about? When last time you actually just sat back and thought, Why am I here?
What is this business about? Why am I doing what I’m doing? What are the values that I hold to the utmost importance and the vision that I see for this business? Have you stopped to really think about that ideal client again?
As you know, you know, if you’ve been in business for a little while, that ideal client changes as you grow with your business. So it’s important that you really take that time to sit back and do the research again.
I recommend to my clients to look at that ideal client picture at least once a year, if not more frequent. So if you start seeing shifts with people that are coming through the doors, then it’s time to just sit back and reassess that ideal client.
And why? Because you need to start considering, well, okay, if they’ve changed, then how am I marketing my business to make sure that I’m attracting the right type of person? Have you considered the types of problems that they’re coming in with now?
That might have changed. You might have started to implement new services because of new trainings that you’ve done recently. How does that work with solving the problems that they’ve got at the moment?
Really take the time to define these elements when it comes to your marketing because this is going to ensure that anything that you say or do with your business is going to resonate with the right people.
The second part of the framework is assess and analyze. Now in episode 34 of the podcast, we went into a lot of detail about doing the research and I’m going to talk a little bit about that here again because it’s no use jumping in and getting all excited about your marketing when you’re not clear on assessing where you’re at at the moment, looking at the current strategy, what’s work, what hasn’t.
Have you developed that unique selling point? Understanding where you sit in respect to the competition. And these days, there is plenty of competition. I was talking to a client recently who was saying to me that she has a psychologist on every corner within a 5K radius.
And we looked at Google Maps and literally there were about 15 other psychologists just in the little vicinity around her. So competition is rife and it’s really important that you understand your strengths and weaknesses so that you can lay the foundation of a marketing strategy that suits you and suits the clients that you’re trying to attract.
Step three of the framework is crafting your action plan. So this is all the implementation part of it. This is the stuff that gets me excited because you start to see all the work that you’ve written down be implemented into a plan that’s going to roll out over the coming months and years.
Your audience are going to see this is what’s going to attract the right clients, how you’re going to build that email list, how you’re going to use a lead magnet to start attracting new clients, what is that strategy that you’re going to use and implement for your social media, and driving that traffic from your social media to your website.
All those pieces need to fit together when you’re looking at all your content and ensuring that it is about attracting the attention of the right clients that are going to be converted into paying clients.
That’s what we’re here for. Step four is the attraction phase. So this part of the framework is where you really start to utilize that content and you also start to look at opportunities of networking and building relationships, looking at collaborative opportunities with other healthcare practitioners or with other professions that complement what you do.
That way you’re going to have that continuous client referral base and build a strong network that’s going to stand you. The test of time as the competition gets stronger, you know that you can rely on those networks that you’ve built because you’ve found other professionals that meet the values that you have that have a similar vision that you may have for your business and most importantly that have the type of client that you’re looking for on their database and vice versa.
Now when you’re looking at this framework it might seem like you don’t know where to start, even though I’ve given you the four steps, it still is confronting and overwhelming and I get that.
